COMPOSTABLE LINERS & BINS

Using bin liners for food organics recycling has the advantage of keeping your bins cleaner and avoids the health issues that can be caused by handling decaying food.

When using the Organics Recycling Service the only bin liners that are accepted are liners certified to AS4736-2006; Compostable.

Compostable

  • Made from plant materials such as corn, potatoes and cellulose.
  • Breaks down in one composting cycle in a time frame consistent with other compostable materials.
  • Breaks down into water, carbon diox- ide and substances supporting plant life, becoming part of the compost.
  • Leaves no visible or toxic residues.

Biodegradable

  • Usually made from plant or animal sources.
  • Disintegrates over time. Can take weeks or even years.
  • Breaks down into its base compounds, through the actions of micro-organ-isms.
  • May contain toxins and heavy metals.

Compost-A-Pak bin liners are made from polymer resin and cornstarch, which is an annually renewable resource, grown and harvested in a single season.

The bin liners are “shelf stable”, just like paper plates or paper towels. They will not decom- pose until they are introduced to the compost environment.

The bright green colour and recogniseable certified compostable logo ensures bags are easily distinguished from other bags as compliant in commercial organics processing facilities.
